The community can always count on the hard work and dedication of the Brookhaven Fire Company. Protecting the borough and surrounding Delaware County since 1922, the fire company is now asking for help from its community in the form of volunteers. Brookhaven Fire Company has launched a four-year recruitment campaign in order to grow its volunteer base and continue to provide top-tier service to the community.
To highlight their ability to manage any call and show pride in their 100+ year history, the tagline “Bringing Calm to Chaos Since 1922” will be featured throughout the campaign, along with the URL “www.JoinBrookhavenFire.org.” Visiting the new recruitment website, community members can learn about the Brookhaven Fire Company, ways they can volunteer, and read frequently asked questions and member testimonials.
“All of our volunteers are proud to show how they serve their community through this campaign,” said Chief Rob Montella. “We are excited to gain more volunteers, provide them with training and gear, and welcome them into our Brookhaven family.”
The campaign will also feature social media management, video production, face-to-face recruitment, targeted advertising, and much more. All recruitment materials will encourage the community to visit www.JoinBrookhavenFire.org and express their interest in volunteering through the completion of an inquiry form.
Brookhaven Fire Company’s recruitment campaign will run for four years and comes at no cost to the taxpayers. The campaign is being funded in its entirety through the Staffing Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Volunteer Opportunities
Brookhaven Fire Company has grown exponentially since its inception in 1922. Firefighters and EMTs respond to a wide range of calls, with that number growing each year. Due to the high demand of calls, more volunteers are needed and no prior experience is necessary to join.
Volunteers train weekly at the fire station in three different membership areas:
Firefighter: Firefighters are expected to perform all functions related to fire suppression and rescue operations, including fire suppression, search and rescue, vehicle fires or accidents, hazmat incidents and more.
Exterior Firefighter: This position is perfect for volunteers looking for an adrenaline rush without entering burning buildings. As an Exterior Firefighter, the goal is to assist outside by establishing a water supply at the fire scene, setting up ground ladders, stretching hose lines and general ground support.
Contributing Member: Contributing members play a vital role in our fire company without responding to emergency calls. They help the fire company operate efficiently and effectively by assisting at community events and fundraising.
“Our volunteers come from many different backgrounds, but we all have a passion for helping others,” said Montella. “As a volunteer, you will not only gain the satisfaction of giving back, but also meet new people and create great friendships.”
To bring attention to the need for more volunteers, Brookhaven Fire Company hired the services of The Communication Solutions Group Inc., a full-service public relations marketing firm based in Jenkintown, Pa. The company successfully ran recruitment campaigns for local fire and rescue organizations including Clifton Heights Fire Company, Darby Fire Company and Garden City Fire Company.
