Volunteer FAQ

Do I need prior experience to become a volunteer?
No! We provide you with gear and training at no cost to you.

Do you accept previous training in emergency services?
We accept training from inside Pennsylvania as well as outside the state. If you need additional certifications, we’ll help you earn them.

Is there an age requirement?
You must be 18 or older to join. Our junior firefighting program (ages 14-17) is currently full.

Will I be paid?
Our volunteer membership positions are unpaid.

How much time will I spend volunteering?
Volunteering is a time commitment that takes dedication and perseverance, including weekly training at the station and earning firefighter certifications through the county.

Can I volunteer without responding to emergencies?
Yes! You can volunteer as a contributing member and help the fire company run smoothly. This may include assisting with bookkeeping, fundraising and secretarial tasks.

How do I sign up to volunteer?
You can express interest in volunteering by filling out a no-obligation form on the JOIN US page. A member of our investigating committee will contact you shortly to tell you more about Brookhaven and answer any questions.

“Volunteering makes you become someone you never thought you’d be. It transforms you to be a strong individual to provide what’s required for the safety of your peers.”
